On a Windows 7 machine you shouldn't need dgVoodoo for framerate issues.  You can switch to proper 16-bit colour mode unlike Windows 8/10.

So we need another summary of what we know about your system:
  • Windows 7 64-bit desktop machine
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3gb
  • GOG version of Swat 3
  • No Last Resort mod installed
  • Admin account trying to run the game
  • Setting the game to run with admin privileges didn't help
  • K-Lite Codec pack was installed and now uninstalled
  • Installed XVID codecs but replacement movies still don't work
  • "-nointro" flag allows game to start but crashes when any movie played
  • Education movies in Swat 3 can't play either

What we haven't confirmed yet:
  • Can your machine switch to a desktop resolution of 640x480
  • What video card do you have Amd/Nvidia and model
  • Now that you installed the XVID movies and codec does the education videos work in Swat 3?
  • Can you run an XVID movie with Windows media player for example "Sierra.avi"

One other thing we can try eventually (wait on this one though until we are really desperate).

This is an old post on the GOG forums about Windows 7 issues:

Here is the solution:

Follow all instructions according to GOG.com such as:
Downloading June 2010 Direct X (link through gog support)
Compatibility mode settings (usually set up automaticaly from the gog installers)

www.gog.com/forum/swat_series/swat_3_dde...error_solution/page1

Now the question is did he really need the Direct X file to fix the issue or did he have one of the machines that works fine just with the XVID replacements?

The other question is what compatibility settings is he talking about? I assume "Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode"?

I couldn't find the DirectX file on the microsoft site but I think I found it on this site:
www.guru3d.com/files-details/directx-end...mes-(june-2010).html

MPEG 4 Replacement movies
Another thing I was exploring was changing the replacement movies to a codec that is supported better with Windows 7, 8, and 10.   I think all of them support .avi files in MPEG-4 format.

Below is a Mpeg 4  file you can test to see if it works better for you.   It contains just "sierra.avi" but that will be enough to get into the game.

Not the desktop, (limited to 800x600) but the game in its vanilla state runs at 640x480, i even checked the format with a screenshot, the problem should not be related to the resolution...
  • What video card do you have Amd/Nvidia and model
Nvidia GEforce GTX 1060 3gb
  • Now that you installed the XVID movies and codec does the education videos work in Swat 3?
No, every movie clip crashes my game, including the intro, the educational clips and the medals clips.
  • Can you run an XVID movie with Windows media player for example "Sierra.avi"
I can read the Xvid version, and the Mpeg4 Version you gave me, but the original file is not displaying, i have only the sound. However, i noticed that the Xvid version is not the same intro as the two other... why is that ?

Also, the Mpeg4 remplacement still crashes my game.

I will now try with the directx version you gave me...
