Original
Converted to PNG
Compressed PNG
Converted back to BMP
- I had better overall results (smaller file sizes and overall quality) with PNG conversion than JPG
- tinypng.com/ had best overall compressor, plus it has literature about it on the front page.

Wouldn't trying to reduce the size of the game by replacing these textures cause mismatch errors in Multiplayer though?
Can't say I'm too concerned with how much disk space SWAT 3 is taking up, its not even 2GBs.
I get why getting rid of duplicate textures would be nice when it comes to updating to higher res textures though, saves having multiple copies of the same texture.

Maybe, have to test it out. I recalled reading something ages ago that SWAT3 doesn't validates file image checksums and how cheaters were abusing it way back then. I believe it was on 10-david's website, it might have been patched. Here's this video of swat3 aimbot that been on YouTube since 2007,no links to downloads of course.
Also, about file mismatches. This for game mod isn't it? Just release updated version...
About .RES files, what do you use to open them? Notepad++ doesn't work.

Interesting experiment SystemArray. I would have assumed the image sizes after going back to .BMP wouldn't be much different from original.
Update: .RES files are just renamed .ZIP files.
Update 2: Yes, Swat 3 doesn't check image files. Basically it only cares about .dat files.
