Evolve instead of Tunngle for multiplayer?

I integrated an OPEN SOURCE VPN into Swat 3 years ago, 2011 to be exact, you turned it down.

You choose a server and hit connect, if user receives ping, the connect button will be green.
The servers can also be pinged and color updated to represent if they are on or offline. Other options like choosing wether to show connection CMD prompt, or hide cmd prompt, and/or run as service can be listed in the Multi-Player Tab.

It was complete with a mysql database of users, from which a program similar to the AccountWizard can create new accounts, modify password, modify username. The installer was complete with an updater to update client files and to update available servers to connect to.

Bounty, beckett and I was talking about this on TS a few days ago, and it seems possible to connect and disconnect, join server locations from in the game using con files, but my idea was to integrate it with the LastResort Mod as in my representation of the server tab in the picture above.

Unfortunately it was soo long ago that I cannot locate the server files. I found the client installer, but without the server files for a server host provider to host its useless.

After talking to bounty and running test thru the con files, it seems possible to do something to completely integrate it, but I am hesitant in recreating the server files and updating the client installer becuase of the lack of interest back when I created these files, and i feel it will be a waste of time again.

As for the screenshot this is complete fiction since it never happened and I haven't given out the Launcher code, lol.

All I remember was you tried to get me to install a VPN that involved the TAP driver and I said no thanks. You were always trying to get me to install software to remote view and such and I always said no for security reasons, lol. Beyond that I knew nothing about your plans or any experiments. At the time all I recall was we were discussing options for 3rd party programs to replace Hamachi. Nothing about a server idea.

This is all news to me. I know I am senile but that senile? Maybe I completely misunderstood what you were trying to sell me, lol.

Maybe you worked on it after our initial discussion and you never showed me it? I seriously have no recollection of anything beyond us testing out 3rd party software to run in the background.

As i stated before it was my depiction or representation of the tab in the picture I posted. I never said I integrated it into the Last Resort Mod by the use of the source code.

I need to stop being such an ass. I'm seriously thinking of giving up. You guys dont need my help. My ideas are overlooked and skills unappreciated, my time underestimated. I'll provide support, ideas, and help on a 1 to 1 basis if you ask, but not at the expense of my trust, personality, skills, friendship and not if I am to be rediculed, brought to believe as unbelievable and untrustworthy, or a as con artist.

This is probably my last post. Ill look for the server files if you like.

lol, Felix you weren't. I keep posting about how senile I can be sometimes. I was questioning my shitty memory and was shocked I couldn't remember this. It may have come across as an accusation but it was more about my disbelief of having a hole in my memory. I posted that the "screenshot was fiction" because I didn't want visitors reading this and thinking that I was some sort of jerk that rejected what you worked on. I never saw anything beyond the mock-up screenshot and didn't know you actually worked on it.

You know I like the way you think way out of the box. You will often come up with shit that nobody else would think of.

I have started to vaguely remember the screenshot (or at least part of it) and you showing it to me. I remember the section of the screenshot that had the server list in it (and remember thinking it is a wonderful pipe dream). If I recall correctly I didn't want to get involved in having to force people to install a driver that was required to run that. I didn't mind an app that ran (and that could easily be shut down) but a driver or service that ran was too much. I don't remember you working on it other than the mock-up of the screenshot.

Besides, knowing me I didn't want to have to do the extra coding required to add something like that into the Launcher. I was looking for an app that already existed (like Hamachi) that we could just run in the background when needed. Clean. Simple. Elegant. Trustworthy.

I remember trying out a few things. We tried Wippien. Comodo EasyVPN. Some others that I can't recall their names.

You may have a different perspective on what went down during this time period. I apologise if my memory sucks and/or if there was a misunderstanding. Always feel free to keep visiting and posting your ideas and comments here in the forum.

Copy-Cat, I'm not home right now. But when I do I'll jump on TS with you to hash out the server idea. If all testing goes as planned, I'll write the program that people can download and install.

SJ, it would be nice to have it in the LR mod but I understand how you think about security. So, I will write the program but not as a competing mod to yours. More like, a mod/program to run side by side with LR so we can all game together. After all, that's the point of all this

It all depends if there is a need to integrate the two. I don't want to make the LR Launcher needlessly complex. If it makes more sense for the server/client/vpn software to be standalone then great. If you see how it could be useful for it to be integrated into the Launcher somehow just let me know. Perhaps all it needs is a tick box for the user to say if he wants it run before Swat 3 or a button to launch it immediately.

I admit I am paranoid about security. I always worry that someone will accuse me of adding spyware or malware or any of that kind of funny business. I know the best way to fix that is make your program open source but I am so damned slow when it comes to making this mod. I am selfish and want to do the work myself...eventually, lol. I think the last release of the mod was 5 years ago. That is sad.

I spend a lot of time playing other games and in the spring/summer/fall I frequently am busy with real life work. Every so often I get the itch to work on the mod again.

The other reason I haven't made it open source is I am embarrassed to show the way I code to real programmers. A lot of times I write code so that it will be easier to read in the future. That means lots of comment lines. Some of the algorithms aren't necessarily written for efficiency and speed and many programmers would laugh at the methods I use. It all works fine but they will chuckle no doubt at the way I got there. I name variables for instance for what makes sense to me. I don't care about traditional coding conventions.
