Messing around with mapping. I notice that decals from TGA files seem to suffer from awful color banding. You don't get this problem if you use a BMP decal, but then you don't have the use of an alpha channel either. It's very annoying.
Anyone have any solutions to the problem? I pleaded with CC, but he has no answer.

Sadly no. This sort of change would require either the source code or some extensive reverse engineering.
It bugs the hell out of me too.

Shame. Seems the banding is noticeably worse on the TGA decal than on the BMP ones too. No TGA no transparency = having to use padding in textures, which is akward and may waste more disk space. Using dgVoodoo didn't make any sort of a difference to things either, unfortunately.
