Not too long ago someone asked me if there was a way to make the Last Resort mod work with the Armed Forces mod so the custom main menu of the Armed Forces mod would show.

I finally got around to actually looking at the Armed Forces mod and the answer is no it can't work.    The problem is that the Armed Forces mod is so old it was designed for version 1.6 of Swat 3.   In other words it isn't 100% compatible with Swat 3 today.

Version 1.7 of Swat 3 added new mod features and then there were further changes to version 2.0 for the main menus.

Perhaps if someone is looking for a project they could update Armed Forces to modernize it.

For instance the main menu should be named "MM_background.bmp" instead of "menumenu_multi_BACK.bmp" and perhaps the blue officer from "mainmenu_mprollout.bmp" can be photoshopped into it.  The rollover buttons would have to be fixed though.

other .dat files would also have to be inspected to see if they follow the version 1.7 changes to how mods work.

I was thinking about this mod probably a year ago or so, whenever the last time I was messing with SWAT before the recent months and I couldn't remember why it was a mod lots of people used? I did take a look at the dat files at the time but I don't recall any reason they wouldn't be working on the latest version but something in my mind does say the mod stopped functioning properly and we was waiting for like Armed Forces 2 that just never came?

Also remember a skin that I have tied to Armed Forces in my mind but it doesn't actually appear to be in the zip?

Not sure where the skin came from sorry.

Ya, I think you are right about the 2.0 version of his mod never getting done.

All I remember is that it had well done menus, new weapons, and I think some blood effects. It was like a Bruce Willis action movie at the time, lol.

I booted up the game earlier and had a quick test, as far as I could tell the blood effects, muzzle flashes and weapons still work, but I feel like it wasn't just the menus that needed fixing, its been too long...

This is why the spam posts are bad, because they obscure help where it is wanted.

UPDATE: Were you thinking of preserving the mod and allowing the mod to make the changes to the LRM menus?
Why not just strip the mod from its menu modifications and call it Armed_Forces_2.1.

I remeber when P0V3RTY was creating the DNC multi Mod we had issues including some of the features from the armed forces mod, so we stripped it down and was then easily added to the mod.

Well I have been working on a "no menu" addition to the Last Resort mod for people who don't like the custom menus and want to use clan mods and such that have their own main menus.

Armed Forces doesn't actually have a menu.dat for the main menu.  It is just replacement bitmap images that used to work on version 1.6 of Swat 3.   They don't work any more because of changed filenames used by the game.   I had to examine the mod though to find out since my memory isn't that good :)

To get the Armed Forces main menu working again it would involve some photoshop work.  It was just an idea for a project for someone.   If I wasn't deep on working on the LR mod I would take a stab at it for the nostalgia factor.   It would be nice to see it properly "restored" to it's former glory rather than just rip the working parts.
