Fixing the Screens(Work flow)

Work has begun in fixing the screens, but I need a clear understanding of what seems to be the issue and I need to know if the problem screens have been reworked to their original positions for the sake of appearance.

Screen issues I have observed:
Problem #1: Screens are in the upper left corner and not centered when you create a Mission > Standard
Problem #2. Screens are too small when you create a Mission > Standard or a Mission > Custom
Problem #3 Screens in Multiplayer Ops, Mission, Gear, and Chat screens are too small
Problem #4 800 x 600 MapLoading images are in the upper left corner after you GO!GO!GO! in Multiplayer/Internet and Multiplayer/Lan

As you can see there are a number of issues, some might be irrelevant due to the current screen update progress of the mod.
If there is another isssue not listed above please let me know so I can work those at the same time.

I never did anything to make certain screens center. The game already did that. For instance all the multiplayer screens automatically are centered and all I had to do was make the new size graphics and modified the coordinates on the .CON files.

#2 and #3 aren't really problems if I am understanding you correctly. We can make larger graphics. It is just a matter of it taking a lot of time and effort. Making new larger graphics for #3 is especially time consuming because of all the elements on the screen. Translating the coordinates for the .CON file is time consuming and mind numbing.

#4 Map loading screens can be solved (the hack location is already in the bible) but again new graphics would have to be generated. Old community made maps would still only have 800x600 graphics.

#1 is the real problem. If we could just center those screens...

I am confused why you are posting a list of .Con files.

The solution won't be in the .Con files. It will be in the Swat.exe file.

However one thing I haven't tested is the first line of a con file (at least I don't think I tested. I might have 10 years ago and forgot, lol):

prompt OpsPrompt MCOpsMap MC_Mission_background 0 0 800 600 0

prompt LanLobby LanLobby LC_Callup_background 0 0 1920 1080 0 0

The first is a .CON file from the regular game and the second is from a Last Resort multiplayer screen. Notice the extra "0" at the end of the line? I have no idea what that does.

I am confused why you are posting a list of .Con files.

I am currently gathering all information on the subject in one post.

is the centering of the background image a value you change in the con file, if it exists?
What is this value and where is it in the con file?

Thinking ahead if I cannot find the value in the exe, we could modify the background images to appear to be centered by creating these images in the different aspect ratios you need to best fit the resolution the user selects. With the other menus set at 800 x 600 (until they are reworked) modifying these problem screens maybe the quick solution for now.

These values
0 0 1920 1080 0 0

in my experience the "0"s woud be the x and y starting position relative to the screen rect.

I have more questions get on TS... :)

Sorry, was busy day. Gotta play some games with the kids after supper to keep their minds off the pandemic.

I might try joining TS later tonight.

Nope I didn't have to do anything with the .Con file to get multiplayer to center the screen. It already did it. As I said I am 99% certain it is something that has to be hacked in the game executable. The only thing I don't recall if it had an affect was that extra zero at the end of the first line in the .con file mentioned above.

You did do something. :) you created 1366 x 768 textures for the multiplayer and mission custom screens with their respective 800 x 600 images pasted and centered, but you didn't create 1366 x 768 mission standard screens with their respective 800 x 600 images pasted and centered.

The question is why?

Ummm, errrr, ummm.

There must have been a reason. It has been nearly 10 years since I did some of that work/research, lol.

Now that I actually stop and think about things there is no reason why I can't simply make new screens and just adjust the coordinates on the .CON files. In fact, because certain screens aren't centered I won't have to "translate" the coordinates using an app I built to recalculate.

I guess the reason I never bothered adjusting the screens was because I was focused on the multiplayer experience. Single player was on the back burner...for 10 years. I have been so focused on making the LR Launcher, making new map textures, running the website I never mentally revisited the single player screens.

Update: Just remembered Menu.dat is the issue. Modify it and you get checksum errors with different resolutions.

Update 2: Copy-cat came up with the perfect fix for this with the Menu.dat issue. He always thinks out of the box!
