Used the previous version fine yesterday so today I grab the latest release and run into this issue where right at startup it gives me "unexpected error". I also completely uninstalled SWAT 3 (GOG rls) and reinstalled it, ran it once, then installed Last Resort v0.7 and the problem persists. Any ideas?

Windows 7 64bit SP1

Oh dear. Thanks for letting me know.

My son's computer is still Windows 7 so I will try to give a test soon. To be honest it has been a while since I tested it on Windows 7 since I have been focused on Windows 10 fixes.

It is strange that it says "unexpected error" only. When you say right at startup do you mean when clicking the launcher or when Swat 3 is starting to launch?

Was there a Last Resort Launcher dialog box that popped up reporting the error or was it a Windows error?

Usually the phrasing of the error box in the Last Resort launcher can give me a clue where the problem is.

If the error was when Swat 3 was launching have you tried ticking the "no intro" box to see if the movies are causing you grief?

Ughh. I tested on my son's Windows 7 machine and there does seem to be an issue. I couldn't replicate your error but I did notice that on Windows 7 machines the Last Resort launcher seems to want to be placed in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Here is a link to instructions for Windows 7 compatibility mode (just choose XP SP3 instead).

See if that resolves your issues. I think I need to include that option in the Last Resort installer so I am temporarily taking down the new version until I can fix..

Damn. I must be incredibly unlucky. XP SP3 gives me the same error. It happens the moment I try to open Last_Resort.exe. imgur.com/a/xoZJ3

Hmmm further testing about Windows 7 needing XP compatibility mode is inconclusive. When I remove the XP compatibility mode setting the Last Resort Launcher still runs fine. I need to test some more.

Right now my theory is that Windows had a bunch of old settings still in the Windows Registry for the compatibility mode and when I reset them it fixed things.

That is odd because I have added a lot of error reporting in the Launcher. Even a startup issue should trigger the error reporting. This sounds like your system has trouble running old Visual Basic apps for some reason.

Question: Is the Windows user account you are running the Launcher on a non-admin account? I wonder if this is a permission thing? If you are okay with doing this, it would be interesting to see what happens if you give the Last_Resort.exe admin privileges.

Some method you did to give it XP compatibility mode but at the bottom you should have a tick box option for admin privileges "run this program as administrator".
